We have 3 exciting speakers lined up to discuss the challenges facing the tourism industry in Cambodia, and what is the plan moving forward.
Mr. Luu Meng – President of Cambodia Tourism Federation ‘CTF’
Luu Meng is born in Cambodia and hails form a lineage of culinary celebration, whose grandmother honed her own skills in the Kitchen of the Royal Palace and a mother who has passed on this passion for food. Drawing on this inspiration and equipped with knowledge of Khmer traditional usage of flavors and spices from his matriarchs, he further pursued his passion for cooking abroad.
Luu Meng has worked with the late Anthony Bourdaine and appeared in an episode of the Gordon Ramsay’s Great Escape as a guest chef as well has having bestowed with the honorable title of ‘Cambodian Master Chef’ in recognition of his creativity and celebration of Cambodian dishes. He is also the ambassador to promote and propel Cambodian cuisine into the world stage and participate in numerous tradeshows and culinary events organized by Cambodian Tourism Ministry, Chefs Association and many more.
In 2005, Luu Meng established Malis Restaurant with Arnaud Darc, his business partner, based on a passion to see authentic Khmer cooking served respectfully in chic aesthetic presentations and under a more enchanting ambience. The success of Malis has elevated even further the respect for his culinary style and excellence in delivering the complete hospitality experience. Aside from the cooking scenes, Luu Meng has participated in numerous Cambodian and international food and agricultural exhibitions, as well as tourism related activities as he continues to represent and promote his country. Luu Meng is a big advocate for using local fresh and natural produces whenever possible in his cuisines and businesses.
Mr. Herman Kemp – General Manager at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh
Dutch national, Herman has more than 20 years of hospitality experiences. He commenced his hospitality career as a bartender & restaurant attendant, at Restaurant De Kraton & Memories Restaurant, Indonesia. Herman also worked as a Marine Hotel Operations Controller at Holland America Line Westours Inc., one of the industry leaders in the cruise hospitality premium segment in the United States. Over the years, Herman pursued his hospitality career with management roles as an Assistant Food & Beverage Manager at Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts, and Food & Beverage Manager at Sofitel Luxury Hotels & Resorts. He also works as Office Manager at Unique Nederland B.V. & de Keuken van Waarde, and Executive Assistant Manager at Carlton Hotel Collection.
In 2012, he brought more than 10 years experiences back to Indonesia as a General Manager and Resident Manager of Aryaduta Hotels Indonesia. He also worked as the General Manager of The edge Bali by Mesa Hotels & Resorts, Luxury 5 star all villa resort on the cliffs of Uluwatu, Bali, with facilities including 1 restaurant, 1 bar, Spa and fitness centre and boasting lavish wedding facilities, catering to the high-end luxury market.
In 2016, he came to Cambodia and worked as a General Manager at Hyatt Siem Reap. In 2019 Herman was selected to pre-open & open the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh, 247 room hotel with large meeting & events spaces, 4 outlets and health & wellness facilities as General Manager.
Mr. Nick Ray – Location Manager, Producer, and Director at Hanuman Film
Nick works in a variety of roles in the world of travel, television and film.
In the world of travel, Nick has been a long time Lonely Planet author, contributing to more than 50 guidebooks, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, as well as destinations further afield such as Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. He has also written for a number of leading publications, including The Sunday Times, Wanderlust and BBC Travel. Nick has also been the long time Product Director at leading locally-owned tour operator Hanuman Travel designing original experiences.
In the world of television and film, Nick has worked in many roles, such as the Location Manager on Tomb Raider, the Line Producer on Top Gear Vietnam and has enjoyed adventures throughout Cambodia with various celebs ranging from motorbike adventurer Charley Boorman to infamous Chef Ramsay. He also accompanied Jack Whitehall through Cambodia for the popular Netflix show Travels With My Father. Nick was also a Producer on the award-winning Cambodian feature film The Last Reel, which won the Spirit of Asia Award for Director Kulikar Sotho at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Nick has worked on his own short travel films for BBC Travel Show, Lonely Planet and other media, including the new ‘Taste Cambodia’ official tourism film for the Kingdom, released in 2021.
Nick also works as a tour leader and tour lecturer for leading companies and institutions. Nick was the Country Manager for the Harvard Business School MBA Immersion Program in Cambodia in 2014 and 2015 and the Country Expert for the Tony Robbins’ Platinum Trip to Cambodia in 2019.
Nick also works as a sustainable tourism consultant for leading organisations and NGOs in Cambodia. More recently, Nick has been working with the World Bank as a consultant on the Cambodia Sustainable Landscape & Ecotourism Project (CSLEP) to promote ecotourism in Cambodia, including plans to engage the private sector in sustainable, ethical investments in protected areas.
Mr. Raymond Chen, the Co- founder of Safe Road Explore Co., Ltd.
Raymond Chen, the Co- founder of Safe Road Explore Co., Ltd. who was born in 1973, in Henan China, international trade background, 20 years’ experience in textile/house hold products import and export sector, serviced in one Italy trading company when he was 30’s, follow up the business and travel to Europe and southeast Asia, He Loves Cambodia since his first visit 20 years ago, he set up his business and social community in Cambodia, making friends with khmer people and Expats in Cambodia, He loves arts and travel and enjoys his life in Cambodia…
