Sub-decree on the ‘International Buddhist Day’

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has announced Sub-decree, dated on 16 August 2024 on the ‘International Buddhist Day’.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has designated April 8 officially as International Buddhist Day to promote Buddhism as the state religion, strengthen international ties with Buddhist countries, and encourage the Buddhist path for peace both in Cambodia and globally.

Additionally, the sub-decree emphasizes that the International Day of Buddhism will also specifically honor the contributions of King Norodom Sihamoni who was awarded the title of “Virtuous King who Promotes Buddhism in the World”.

The Ministry of Cult and Religion to organize the International Day of Buddhism annually in collaboration with relevant institutions.

All government ministries, institutions, local and foreign NGOs are encouraged to promote and support the day in order to foster greater public understanding of Buddhist teachings.

Moreover, the Ministry of Cults and Religions is also authorized to send congratulatory messages and support to the World Buddhist Summit’s governing body each year.
